Rites for Raymond Halstead, Decatur Businessman


Decatur barber Raymond Halstead passed away Sunday, February 18, at the Blair Memorial Hospital. Mr. Halstead, the son of the late Frank Halstead, had served Decatur residents not only as a barber for 13 years but as an elder of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, substitute mail carrier and area farmer.


Mr. Halstead operated the Halstead Barber Shop with partner Robert Holman. Holman said Monday he will continue to keep the shop open in an effort to keep the service available in the community.


Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 20, at the Decatur RLDS Church for the 54 year-old businessman. Patriarch Russell Maryott of Walthill officiated assisted by Elder E.J. Severyn.


Mr. Halstead is survived by his wife, Beulah; his mother, Lois Halstead, and sister, Mrs. Charles (Helen Dell) Koifoid of Charleston, Ill.


Pall bearers were Harold Bacon, Gerald Bacon, Hiram Miller, Melvin Johnson, Glen Tippery and Richard Terwilliger. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery in Decatur.
