Funeral services for Gula Peterson were held Friday, February 18, 1994 at 10:30 a.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Decatur, Nebraska. Officiating was Fr. Martin P. Conley and organist was Dot Connealy.


Gula Peterson was born June 9, 1918, on a rural homestead two miles west of Decatur, Nebraska to Harry A. and Margaret (Marge Connealy) Sears. She passed away suddenly on February 14, 1994 at her home in Decatur, Nebraska, at the age of 75 years.


Gula has lived her entire life in the Decatur Area. She graduated from Decatur High School in 1936 and attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln receiving her rural teaching certificate. While teaching the rural schools, Ball, McCulloch and Elm Creek she continued her education at Dana College in Blair, receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in Education June of 1973. She taught for three years in Decatur Public Schools before her retirement in June of 1983.


On August 23, 1939, Gula and Jerry Peterson were united in marriage at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Tekamah. They lived their entire married lives on a farm southeast of Decatur. She moved into Decatur when Jerry passed away in 1969.


Gula was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Decatur and its Altar Society. She was also a member of the High-Low Bridge club.


Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Janice and Larry Larsen of Decatur, sons, Paul Dennis Peterson of Palmdale, CA and Harold (Herk) Peterson of Upland, Ca.; brothers, Ed Sears of Decatur and Harold Sears of Alta Loma, CA.; sister, Mary Alice (Mrs. Wendell) Bearden of Ellicott City, MD and Ethyl Maxine (Mrs. Bill) Livermore Santa Anna, CA; five grandsons and one granddaughter.


She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Jerry in September 1969.  Casket bearers were Rod Larsen, Keven Larsen, Mark Peterson, Jason Richards, Josh Richards, Justin Richards and Vicki Peterson.
 

Interment was in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Decatur, NE. and Hamel-Peck-Pelan Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Pub LMS 24 Feb 1994
